FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Answers to the Questions We Hear Most
Custom paint and restoration work isn't one-size-fits-all. Here are some of the most common questions about pricing, process, and what we do, and don't do.
-
Every project is different. Pricing depends on the amount of prep work, hidden rust or body damage, the type of paint you want (factory color match, candy coat, metal flake, crushed glass, etc.), and the complexity of the job. Photos can give us a rough ballpark, but for an accurate quote we need to see the vehicle in person — that's the only way to spot issues that change the price.

No. SG Paintworks focuses on custom painting, restorations, repaints, and rust repair — the kind of work the bigger collision shops aren't set up to do well. We leave standard insurance collision claims to the high-volume body shops so we can focus on getting custom work done right.

Both are highly custom paint finishes that give a vehicle serious visual depth.
Metal flake mixes tiny reflective flakes into the paint, creating that brilliant, sparkling shimmer you see on classic hot rods and custom cruisers. The flake size and color can be customized to match your vision.
Crushed glass uses actual ground glass particles for an even more reflective, multi-dimensional finish. It catches light differently from every angle and is a favorite for high-end custom motorcycles.
Both finishes take more time and skill to apply correctly — but the result is a paint job that looks completely different from anything off a factory floor.

Paint protection film — sometimes called a "clear bra" — is a transparent vinyl wrap applied over your vehicle's paint to protect it from rock chips, road debris, and minor scratches. It's nearly invisible once installed and can cover the front bumper, hood, fenders, or the entire vehicle.
PPF is especially valuable on freshly painted custom work or daily-driven vehicles where you want to keep the finish looking factory-new for years.
Note: PPF service is coming to SG Paintworks in Fall 2026.

It depends on the scope:
Small parts (tank, fender, single panel): typically 1–2 weeks
Full motorcycle repaint: 2–4 weeks
Full vehicle repaint or restoration: 4–8+ weeks, depending on prep needs and custom work
We'll give you a realistic timeline once we see the project. Restoration work especially can grow — once you start cutting into rust, sometimes there's more underneath than expected.

Yes. Rust repair is one of our core services. We cut out the damaged metal, repair or replace as needed, and prep the area properly before any primer or paint touches it. Skipping the prep work is the #1 reason rust comes back — we don't skip it.

No — though motorcycles are a big part of what we do, we paint and restore classic cars, work trucks, hot rods, golf carts, snowmobiles, custom builds, and more. If it's a passion project or a custom job, we want to hear about it.
We do not do general mechanical work, frame straightening, or standard insurance collision repair.
-
In most cases, no. The quality of a paint job depends heavily on the quality and compatibility of the materials. We use specific products we've tested and trust — bringing in unknown materials can compromise the finish and any warranty on the work. If you have a very specific paint or color request, talk to us about it and we'll work out the best way to make it happen.

The best way is to bring the vehicle by the shop so we can see it in person. We can also work from photos for an initial ballpark, but anything we quote off photos is a rough estimate until we see the project in person.
